Multifocal Fixed Drug Eruption Probably Induced by Mefenamic Acid

چکیده
TNPM presents as subcorneal or intraepidermal pustules composed mainly of neutrophils; this finding helps to differentiate TNPM from NTE, in which there is a predominance of eosinophils. In conclusion, we must be aware that TNPM is a benign condition with no systemic manifestations and it does not require treatment. This entity can be confused with serious infections, and patients with TNPM may be administered empirical antibiotic treatment or undergo invasive tests. It is essential that pediatricians and dermatologists are aware of TNPM in order to avoid unnecessary additional tests or treatments.

Mefenamic acid is a common widely prescribed drug with analgesic activity. Authors report two cases of multifocal fixed drug eruption induced by mefenamic acid. Cases were diagnosed on basis of clinical examination and histopathology of skin lesion. Only a few cases have been reported in the literature and these are the first two described in Greece.

متن کاملFirst multifocal bullous fixed drug eruption due to etodolac.
Fixed drug eruption (FDE) usually appears as a solitary/small number of pruritic, well circumscribed, erythematous--violaceous macules that evolve into oedematous plaques which typically resolve after the discontinuation of the offending drug, leaving residual hyperpigmentation. This eruption is considered pathognomonic of a drug-induced dermatosis and is triggered within a few minutes or up to...

AbstractFixed drug eruption (FDE) is a unique type of cutaneous drug reaction that typically recurs in the identical locations on re-exposure to the attributed drug. FDE is characterized by the appearance of a single or multiple sharply demarcated violaceous erythematous plaques which heal with residual hyperpigmentation. A 27-year-old woman presented with multiple dark patches over her eyelids...

Fixed drug eruption (FDE) is a distinctive type of cutaneous drug reaction that characteristically recurs in the same locations upon re exposure to the offending drug. It is responsible for about 10% of all adverse drug reactions. Medications inducing fixed drug eruptions are usually those taken intermittently. Common drugs causing fixed drug eruptions are fluconazole, ciprofloxacin, doxycyclin...
